Update: Former Cainsville Superintendent and Wife Identified as Victims of Iowa Plane Crash

A former Cainsville superintendent and his wife died when a small plane crashed into a cornfield in eastern Iowa’s Muscatine County.

Sheriff Quinn Riess confirmed the single-engine Piper went down Wednesday afternoon about 4 miles north of Muscatine.

68-year old Daniel Slack and his wife, Sharon lived in El Dorado Springs, Missouri. Slack retired as superintendent of schools in Deerfield, Kansas last year.

A preliminary investigation determined the plane took off from Ford Airport near Iron Mountain, Michigan, to fly back to Missouri.

The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board were investigating the cause of the crash.
