Some Missouri farmers are welcoming the rain with open arms. Last week’s U.S. Drought Monitor showed a worsening of dry conditions across Missouri, with extreme drought in the middle of the state and the other dry categories expanding. Trent Tiemann, a crop consultant near Paris, says he noticed some farmers getting frustrated by the lack of moisture lately…

“We had crops that were starting to be affected in terms of, they just weren’t growing. And anything that was planted in the clay at a certain period, it was just struggling coming out of the ground because there wasn’t enough moisture and for a while there wasn’t enough heat also,” Tiemann says.

Rain hammered parts of southern Missouri last night and this morning, closing some roads.
