South Harrison Board Receives State Assessment Scores Update

South Harrison School Board members reviewed their Safe Return to In-Person and Continuity of Services Plan during their September meeting held Monday night. Superintendent Dennis Eastin did note that the district has experienced a higher level of viral sickness lately. How the district handles those types of situations are included in the plan.

State Assessment scores have been sent to schools in Missouri but are currently embargoed. School districts can appeal their scores through Thursday of this week. Statewide, the state experienced slight increases in math and science scores. Overall, the English and Social Studies scores declined. Superintendent Eastin did note that an effort is being organized to incorporate some local test results into the state assessment scores. He also mentioned that Missouri’s Blue Ribbon Commission will make retention recommendations to the State Board next month.

Athletic Director Kale Watson gave a participation update of students involved in fall sports activities. South Harrison generally experienced slight growth in their high school fall sports participation, particularly in Girls Softball. Football participation was up 11 percent, Softball participation 42 percent, Girls Golf down 1 student athlete, and Volleyball up 9 percent with 35 athletes. Middle School Sports participation for Fall Sports was down 24 to 33 percent. South Harrison will hold their Senior Night in football next Friday, September 23rd. The Fall Sports Homecoming Week at South Harrison will be October 2nd through the 7th.

Superintendent Eastin updated the board on health insurance through the Missouri Educators Trust.

South Harrison’s District Surplus Sale will be held October 25th at 5:30pm.

The building trades construction contract was approved.

A contract with Great Circle Academy for a student service was also approved at the session.
