A 7-2 vote Monday evening by the St. Joseph City Council extended the city mask mandate by another 60 days.

The current mask mandate was set to expire on Sunday, but Monday’s vote will extended that order until mid-April. During the meeting options of 30-day, 60-day and 120-day extensions were discussed but ultimately the 60-day option was settled upon.

Lower hospitalization rates, lower positivity rates, and the rollout of the vaccines factored into the decision.

The council also voted 5-4 to resume in person meetings starting with their next meeting in two weeks.
