St. Joseph Man Arrested after Tuesday Crash in Carroll County

A Saint Joseph man was arrested on multiple drug and driving charges after an accident Tuesday in Carroll County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred on U.S. 65, north of Route M, when a vehicle driven by 36-year-old Saint Joseph resident Nicholas G. Newton was heading northbound.

Troopers say another northbound vehicle attempted to pass Newton’s vehicle and struck a southbound vehicle driven by 56-year-old California, Missouri resident Ronald R. Ash.

Ash suffered minor injuries and was taken to Carroll County Memorial for treatment.

Following the crash, troopers arrested Newton on preliminary charges of felony tampering with a motor vehicle, felony possession of a controlled substance of methamphetamine, driving while intoxicated via drugs, and driving while suspended or revoked.

Newton was taken to the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office and booked on a 24-hour hold.
