St. Joseph School Board Censures Lanning, Votes Against Censuring Garcia

The St. Joseph School District’s Board of Education voted to censure board member Whitney Lanning and against censuring member Isaura Garcia.

Lanning appeared in court Wednesday. She pleaded not guilty to a second-degree harassment charge resulting from her alleged actions following a dispute with Garcia the night of a late February meeting.

Board member Kim Miller motioned to censure Lanning and was one of three to vote in favor. Garcia and David Foster voted in the affirmative as well.

Two members of the board were absent. Lanning abstained, and Latonya Williams voted against the censure.

By censuring Lanning, the board has publicly disagreed with Lanning’s alleged actions, but there are no disciplinary measures on top of the censure.

During the same meeting, Lanning motioned to censure Garcia for alleged comments.

Lanning and Williams voted in favor of the measure, but Foster, Garcia, and Miller voted against it, stopping it with a 3-2 majority.
