St. Louis Takes Aim At MO’s Relaxed Gun Laws

The Gateway Arch is seen, Thursday, March 3, 2022 in St. Louis. The Arch was built in the mid-1960s to withstand a strong earthquake, but many other structures in the central U.S. are not. That’s concerning because the active New Madrid Fault is centered in southeastern Missouri, and experts say there’s up to a 10% chance of a magnitude 7.0 earthquake or greater in the region within the next 50 years. (Missourinet) Missouri’s two largest and most violent cities are working to find loopholes in the state’s relaxed gun laws.
St. Louis Mayor Tishaura Jones says the city plans to file gun legislation soon to address the city’s gun violence problems.
The bill would ban “military-grade” assault weapons, prevent the sale or transfer of guns to minors, and address ghost guns, which are untraceable and do not have a serial number.
Kansas City is working to file similar legislation. Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey says his office will study whether the cities are following state law.
