Staffing Shortages At Missouri Veterans’ Homes Are Improving

(Missourinet) Missouri’s seven nursing homes for veterans are improving with recruiting and retaining staff.

Veterans Commission Executive Director Paul Kirchoff says a federal grant to help recruit and retain staff, along with an 8.7-percent state worker pay increase, have helped to address major staffing shortages.

Kirchoff says due to the increase in retaining and recruiting staff, the veterans’ homes have been admitting new patients.

Kirchoff says evening pay is higher and each Missouri veterans’ home has also added a staff recruiter.

Missouri has veterans’ homes in Cameron, Cape Girardeau, Mexico, Mt. Vernon, St. James, St. Louis, and Warrensburg.
