State Agencies, Universities, Organizations Work Together on Literacy in Massive Project

MU was recently awarded more than $5 million as part of a statewide, 5-year, $18 million project to improve literacy efforts in Missouri classrooms.

Professor Amy Lannin, in the MU College of Education also directs the Campus Writing Program. The 2.7 million dollars she will work with teachers.

The state education department will select schools for the program — and for the first time, DESE is bringing together ALL groups and agencies in the state that work with student literacy:

The grant- funded project is in its early stages- including discovering where the work will be needed the most. BUT – add to that- the pandemic’s changes to teaching.

Another part of the M-U grant is helping early childhood educators extend family literacy practices into the classroom.
