State Ed Commissioner On Four-Day School Weeks

Missouri plans to study the teacher turnover and retention rates among K-12 public schools that are operating on a four-day school week.

About 30-percent of Missouri’s roughly 560 school districts and charter schools hold classes four days a week. More and more Missouri schools have shifted to the shorten school weeks in an effort to help recruit new teachers.

State Education Commissioner Margie Vandeven says she wants to dive into the mix reviews she’s hearing about.

Although students are only in school four days a week, the amount of learning time required is the same as it is for schools running on a traditional five-day school week.
