State Fire Marshall’s Office Investigating Fatal Wednesday Incident in Chillicothe

The Missouri State Fire Marshall’s Office is investigating a fatal Wednesday incident in Chillicothe.

Chillicothe Police say they stopped a bus in the 900 block of South Washington Street around 7:18 Wednesday evening after reports of the bus driving erratic on 65 Highway.

Authorities say the driver of the bus, a 43-year-old male from Dalton, Missouri, stopped the vehicle, went to the back of the bus, poured flammable liquid on himself, ignited that liquid, and ran from the bus toward police.

Officers say they used a fire extinguisher to put out the driver and called for an airlift to a local medical facility, but the driver ultimately died from his injuries.

Police did not release the name of the victim.
