State Lawmaker Vows To change Statute Of Limitations For Childhood Sex Abuse Civil Lawsuits

(MISSOURINET) – Current Missouri law restricts civil lawsuits to be filed by childhood sexual abuse survivors by the age of 31. The Missouri Legislature failed to pass a bill this year that would have allowed those victims, including people with disabilities, to sue their abusers until they are 41. Representative Brian Seitz (sites), a Republican from Branson, says he had to “fight overwhelming odds” to get initial House approval of the legislation, which gained unanimous support.

The American Property Casualty Insurance Association says the bill is unconstitutional. Seitz says the measure will be the first one he files for next year’s session.
