State Rep. Doug Richey Proposes Sales Tax Exemption for Electricity Providers
State Representative Doug Richey of Excelsior Springs is proposing a new law that would create a sales tax exemption for electricity providers.
Richey believes the move would ultimately result in cheaper electric bills for customers. In a release Richey said “Higher tax rates on our electricity providers ultimately result in higher rates for their customers. By providing tax relief to providers we can see those savings pass on to Missouri families who deserve a break from the skyrocketing prices they have seen in everything from gas to groceries.”
Richey’s House Bill 258 would create a state sales tax exemption for utilities, equipment, and materials used to generate or transmit electricity. Richey said the tax cut to electricity providers would ultimately result in a rate cut for Missouri residents who currently feel the impact of the tax through higher utility prices.
