State Senator Barbara Anne Washington (D-Kansas City) Opposes a Special Session for KCPD Funding Issue

Four Northland Kansas City GOP lawmakers want Missouri’s governor to call a special session on the Kansas City Police Department (KCPD) funding issue. They’re upset after the city council transferred 42-million from the police to a community service fund. Kansas City Democratic State Senator Barbara Anne Washington opposes the special session call, saying KCPD needs more community policing along with sensitivity and cultural diversity training:

Senator Washington says the city council is not defunding the police but is reallocating funding. The four GOP House members see it differently, saying Kansas City is in crisis. They note there were a record 178 homicides in Kansas City last year, along with 63 so far this year.
