Statewide Vote Tuesday For Amendment 2

The Constitutional Amendment that will be on the ballot statewide on Tuesday will be Amendment 2. It will ask voters if the Missouri Constitution should be amended to expand the Medicaid program for persons 19 to 64 years old with an income level at or below 133% over the federal poverty level. Missouri 2nd district representative J Eggleston gives some background on the proposal.

The measure is projected to include another 300,000 people into the Medicaid program. The ballot language says the cost of the measure would include a one time $6.4 million amount and an unknown annual net fiscal impact by 2026 that range from increased costs of at least $200 million dollars to a savings of $1 billion. The language says local governments expect costs to decrease by an unknown amount.

Several health groups, the AARP, and the Missouri Chamber of Commerce are endorsing the proposal.

The Missouri Farm Bureau is one of the groups opposing the measure.
