Suspect Held at Gun Point by Victim in Livingston County

LIVINGSTON COUNTY, MO- A victim of a crime in Livingston County held the suspect at gunpoint until officers arrived.

The incident happened in the early morning hours of October 3rd. The Livingston County Sheriff’s Department issued a press release today about the incident.

According to the Sheriff’s Office they were called to a residence in the 9000 block of Highway 190 around 4:30 in the morning on a report of a stolen vehicle. The property owner was holding a suspect at gun point who was illegally on the property and believed to have been involved with the vehicle left.

Thirty-four year old Fulton resident John Andrew Orton was taken into custody. Authorities say Orton claimed to have pulled onto the property due to a flat tire and that he refused to identify another suspect who left with the victim’s vehicle. Further investigation revealed several items alleged to have been stolen by the victim of the auto theft.

The vehicle and other contents have not yet been recovered but are believed to have been taken to the St. Joseph area. Orton is on parole for drug violations and resisting arrest. He was incarcerated in the Caldwell County Jail and has since been charged in Livingston County.
