Tarkio Man Killed in Alleged DWI Crash Wednesday in Nodaway County
One Tarkio resident was killed, and another one charged, after a fatal accident Wednesday in Nodaway County.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred on Highway 46, three miles west of Maryville, when a vehicle driven by 31-year-old Elizabeth M. Merriett was heading eastbound.
Troopers say Merriett traveled across the center line, over the westbound lane, and off the north side of the road.
Merriett’s vehicle struck a utility pole and overturned several times before coming to a rest.
During the crash, a passenger, 37-year-old Neil Minor, was ejected from the vehicle.
Minor was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
Merriett was taken by Lifenet to KU Medical Center for treatment.
Troopers say neither were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.
Following the accident, troopers arrested Merriett on preliminary charges of driving while intoxicated via drugs and failure to drive on the right half of the roadway.
Merriett was released for medical treatment.
