Tarkio Man Seriously Injured in Accident with Semi

A man from Tarkio suffered a serious injury after an accident with a Semi in Atchison County.

The Missouri Highway Patrol reports at 9:52 pm Tuesday, 72-year-old Darwin C. Houghton suffered the injury after striking the towed unit of Peterbilt being driven by 39-year-old Bryce J. Stuchlik of Wahoo, Nebraska.

Houghton was driving east on US-136 Highway with 70-year-old Georgia M. Houghton when the semi turned westbound onto 136 from I-29 northbound. The towed unit was crossing both lanes of US-136 and the front of Houghton’s vehicle struck the driver’s side of the towed unit. The semi stopped blocking both lanes with Houghton’s vehicle stuck underneath the towed unit.

Both of the Houghtons were taken by Atchison-Holt Ambulance to Community Hospital of Fairfax, with Georgia suffering a minor injury. Darwin’s injuries were serious enough for him to be transported by air ambulance to the University of Nebraska Hospital.
