Tax Credits Issued to Second Harvest Community Food Bank

ST. JOSEPH, MO- The Missouri Department of Economic Development awarded more than $8 million in tax credits through the Neighborhood Assistance Program, also known as NAP, to 39 organizations for community development projects, including one project in St. Joseph.

The NAP program is designed to strengthen communities by establishing public-private partnerships through either 50 or 70 percent tax credits.

Second Harvest Community Food Bank in St. Joseph was approved for close to $125,000 in credits to provide emergency food assistance to 15 Northwest Missouri counties. The money will be used to assist Second Harvest in serving at-risk Missourians through its Backpack Buddies and pantry programs, which annuals distributes 7 million pounds of food.

The food bank recently decreased its mobile food pantry locations due to funding issues.
