Three Injured in Andrew County Crash Tuesday Afternoon

Three area residents were injured in a three car accident Tuesday afternoon in Andrew County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred on U.S. 169, one mile north of Saint Joseph, when a vehicle driven by 17-year-old Savannah resident Breckan B. Basler was heading northbound.

Troopers say Basler attempted to pass another northbound vehicle being driven by 27-year-old Saint Joseph resident Patience M. Chitwood while approaching an oncoming vehicle in the southbound lane.

Authorities report Basler failed to change lanes safely and struck the front driver’s side panel of Chitwood’s vehicle with his rear passenger side wheel.

Basler’s vehicle rotated, traveled off the west side of U.S. 169, and struck a utility pole.

Chitwood’s vehicle rotated, crossed the center line, and was struck by 30-year-old Saint Joseph resident Elizabeth A. Thomas heading southbound.

Thomas’ vehicle would travel off the west side of U.S. 169 before ultimately coming to a rest.

Thomas, Basler, and a 16-year-old male passenger in Basler’s vehicle suffered moderate, serious, and minor injuries, respectively.

All three were taken to Mosaic Life Care, in Saint Joseph, for treatment.

No injuries were reported for Chitwood.

Troopers say all involved were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident.
