Three Teenagers Seriously Injured in Accident Near Bethany, Driver Facing DWI Charges

Three teenagers were seriously injured and one is facing charges from an accident yesterday afternoon near Bethany.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports 18-year old Bethany resident Jacob S. Maize was driving eastbound on U.S. 136 in the wrong lane. His vehicle struck a vehicle driven by 80-year old Leroy Gooding of Albany head-on.

Maize’s vehicle came to rest facing northwest in the westbound lane. Gooding’s vehicle came to rest facing southwest in the eastbound lane.

Maize was taken to the Harrison County Community Hospital with serious injuries. Gooding was transported to the Harrison County Community Hospital with moderate injuries. A 15-year old male in Maize’s vehicle was taken to Harrison County Community Hospital with serious injuries and a 17-year old female was taken by Life Flight Eagle to Children’s Mercy with serious injuries.  The 15-year old male and 17-year old female are both from Bethany.

Maize is facing preliminary charges of felony driving while under the influence of drugs, causing serious physical injury and careless and imprudent driving involving a crash.
