Three Vehicle Chain Reaction Crash Leaves Two Hurt

A Sunday afternoon three-vehicle chain reaction crash in St. Joseph Sunday afternoon left a pair of out of state travelers with injuries.

According to the Highway Patrol the three vehicles were all northbound on Interstate 29 at 4:37 P.M. Sunday when the two of the vehicles began to slow as they approached a construction zone and traffic began merging.

At that time Troopers say a 2011 Ford F150 being driven by 38-year-old Sioux Falls, South Dakota resident Zachary C. Else was following to close and struck the rear end of a 2005 Ford Taurus being driven by 35-year-old Louis, Iowa resident Sarah E. McCormick.

That collision forced the McCormick vehicle to strike the rear of a 2009 Ford Flex being driven by 49-year-old Phoenix, Arizona resident Enrique F. Garcia Gastelum.

According to the accident report everyone involved was wearing proper seat belts, but Zachary Else suffered minor injuries and was taken by private vehicle to Mosaic in St. Joseph for treatment, and passenger in the Gastelum vehicle, 28-year-old Marianna A. Cocoletzi Rosas, suffered moderate injuries and was taken by Buchanan County EMS to Mosaic for treatment.
