Traffic Stop and Chase Leads to Drug Arrests In Andrew County
A traffic stop and short pursuit in Andrew County resulted in the arrest of two individuals for drug possession early Sunday.
According to the preliminary information released by the Andrew County Sheriff, deputies conducted a vehicle stop on Interstate 229 near County Road 375 at about 4:37 A.M. for multiple lane violations and traveling 25-30 miles-per-hour under the speed limit. During the stop deputies asked the driver of that vehicle to exit. That driver instead drove away from the scene at a high rate of speed.
After about a six-minute chase the vehicle was stopped with the help of the St. Joseph Police and Missouri State Highway Patrol. Two suspects in that vehicle were then taken into custody without further incident.
The Sheriff’s Office says a search of the suspect’s vehicle resulted in the discovery of “several pounds of narcotics”.
Both suspects were booked into the Andrew County Jail on 24-hour holds to await the filing of formal charges. The names of the individuals arrested have not yet been publicly released.
