Two Car Wreck Leaves Kansas Man With Moderate Injuries

A two vehicle crash Thursday morning in Buchanan county left an Atchison, Kansas man with moderate injuries.

Troop H of the Highway Patrol says 21-year-old Atchison, Kansas resident Keldon M. Reynolds was driving a 2005 Hyundai XM westbound on U.S. Route 59 when he lost control of his vehicle due to a mechanical failure. His Hyundai then crossed the center line of the highway.

At the same time a 2013 Chevy Traverse was being driven eastbound on U.S. 59 by 70-year-old Gerry F. Jackson of Garden City, Kansas. When the Reynolds vehicle crossed the center line, Jackson tried to cross in the opposite direction to avoid a collision. Unfortunately the front passenger side corner of each vehicle collided.

That collision sent the Reynolds Hyundai off the south side of the highway where it hit a concrete retaining wall and came to rest partially on top of that wall, while the Jackson vehicle was able to come to a controlled stop.

Jackson was reportedly wearing a seat belt at the time and escaped injury. However, Reynolds was reportedly not wearing a seat belt and suffered moderate injuries. He was taken by Buchanan County EMS to Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph for treatment.
