Two Iowa Teens Injured in Mercer County Crash Saturday

Two Iowa teenagers were injured in a Mercer County accident Saturday.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred on Caribbean Avenue, about three miles west of Mercer, when a vehicle driven by a 16-year-old Indianola, Iowa male was heading southbound.

Troopers say the teen’s vehicle went off the west side of the road, struck a ditch, overturned, and caught fire.

The teen and a passenger, 18-year-old Des Moines, Iowa resident Johnathan D. Akes, suffered minor and serious injuries, respectively.

Both were taken to Iowa medical facilities for treatment.

Authorities say it is unknown if the two were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident.
