U.S. Senator Josh Hawley Introduces Bill Toughening Sentencing for Child Pornography Offenders

(MISSOURINET) –  U.S. Senator Josh Hawley of Missouri has introduced a measure to federally regulate sentencing for child pornography cases instead of leaving it to judicial discretion.

The Republican senator commanded a national spotlight on the issue during the confirmation hearings for Supreme Court Nominee Ketanji Brown Jackson.

Hawley focused on seven of her cases as a trial judge when she gave less than the recommended sentence to such offenders.

He says his bill is similar to the PROTECT Act of 2003 which was dismantled by the Supreme Court.
