Updated Missouri Funding Calculation Includes $120-Million Increase For Schools

A state funding calculation has been updated and could lead to an overall increase of nearly 120-million dollars for Missouri’s K-12 public schools.

That’s if the governor and Missouri Legislature agree with the tweak in what is known as the State Adequacy Target.

Missouri Board of Education President Charlie Shields, of St. Joseph, talks about the target, which would increase by nearly 800-dollars per student.

The proposed increase is for the next state budget year. It would help to offset an expected drop in state aid to schools as a result of declines in enrollment and attendance, which are also included in the school funding calculation.
