Worth County Fire Investigation Underway

The Missouri Department of Fire Safety says the cause and origin of a fire in Worth County that resulted in a fatality are listed as undetermined. The State Fire Marshall’s office was called to aid in the investigation of a fire Wednesday morning.

The Worth County Fire Protection District reports they responded to a house fire around 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday.  Firefighters found 17-year-old Aivry Griffin inside the home. The Worth County High School student was transported to Mosaic Medical Center in Albany where she was pronounced dead.  Officials report two adults and a child escaped from the house.

Due to the damage as a result of the fire, the cause and origin could not be determined, but nothing suspicious came as a result of the investigation. There will be an autopsy performed on the victim. That is standard procedure. Part of the damage resulting from the fire was the collapse of the first floor of the structure that fell into the basement.

The Worth County Fire Protection District was assisted by the Sheridan Fire Protection District, Worth County Ambulance District, Grand River Ambulance District and the Worth County Sheriff’s Department.
