2nd Half Fireworks Allow Chiefs To Claim Super Bowl LVII Championship

The Kansas City Chiefs overcame a 10-point halftime deficit and a first half injury to quarterback Patrick Mahomes and won their second Super Bowl in the last 4 years with a 38-35 victory over Philadelphia at Super Bowl LVII in Glendale, Arizona.

Kansas City matched Philadelphia’s touchdown from their opening drive, and got a stop in Philadelphia’s second possession. That Kansas City ensuing possession ended with a missed field goal. Early in the 2nd quarter, after getting a stop from the Chiefs, Philadelphia answered with yet another touchdown. Patrick Mahomes was injured late in the 2nd quarter and a limped to the sidelines.

Philadelphia also took advantage of their possession and scored a field goal to lead 24-14 and halftime.

Kansas City would answer with a touchdown in their first drive of the third period with an Isaiah Pacheco run.

 

Philadelphia would get a field goal, but Kansas City then took over in the fourth quarter. Patrick Mahomes found Kadarius Toney on a touchdown pass to take a 28-27 lead with about 12 minutes left.

 

Kansas City then got a stop defensively and got a long punt return from Kadarius Toney to set up a Skyy Moore touchdown catch for a 35-27 lead.

Philadelphia answered with a touchdown and two-point conversion with a little over 5 minutes left, but that was more than enough time for Mahomes and the Chiefs. Mahomes ran on a 26-yard play deep in their last drive to get them within field goal range. Jerick McKinnon then got Kansas City a first down at the one yard line with less than 2 minutes left with Philadelphia low on timeouts.

Kansas City’s Harrison Butker then hit a 27-yard field goal with 11 seconds left. The Chiefs defended the last ditch pass play and won the game.

Patrick Mahomes was named as the Super Bowl Most Valuable Player he had been named as the NFL’s Most Valuable Player earlier in the weekend.
