Benton Girls Fall In Overtime Thriller, Irish Party To 3rd Place Trophy Win
For the second straight game, the Benton girls went overtime to decide a game at Show Me Showdown, but Friday, the Vashon girls forced overtime from regulation as they rallied from 9 points down with a little over two and a half minutes to go and eventually beat Benton in double overtime 79-77 in the Class 4 Girls Championship game of Show Me Showdown. Benton led 59-50 with 2:36 to go in regulation, but 6 missed free throws and two turnovers in that stretch allowed Vashon to tied the game and even have the last possession of regulation. Benton’s Avery Morlock hit a 3-point shot with 28 seconds left in the first overtime to tie it, and Vashon missed the final shot of the first overtime. Vashon hit an early 3-point shot in the second overtime and added two more free throws and a field goal in the next minute and a half to take a 5-point lead in the second overtime. Benton got it back to 77-75 with 13 seconds left, but Vashon hit two more free throws to ice it. Benton Head Coach Chris Michael reflected on the accomplishments of the last 3 years for the Benton girls program.
He says those accomplishments were met with their work ethic.
He also says strong relationships were built along the way.
Benton finishes their season 27-4.
The Lafayette boys basketball team hit 16 3-point shots and shot 57 percent from three-point range as the Irish won comfortably on St Patrick’s Day 78-56 over Father Tolton. Head Coach Kevin Bristol says this performance was one that he expected from the Irish at Show Me Showdown
George Galloway hit of the 3-point shots in a 26-point game.
Lafayette finishes their season 23-8.
