Combined No-Hitter Gives Graceland Baseball 1st Win Of The Year, GU Softball Sweeps Sunday

Graceland’s Baseball team had a big 9th inning as two pictures combined for a no-hitter in Graceland’s first win of the season on Sunday afternoon in Leavenworth, Kansas.

Graceland defeated St Mary 5-0 and the second game of the doubleheader. Graceland had lost 10-9 to the Spires on Saturday and lost 11-1 in the first game of a double header on Sunday.

In the second game, starting pitcher Roger Camacho threw hitless baseball for six innings. He walked 2 and struck out 9. Stephen Eskridge then pitched three innings of no-hit baseball to get the win.

Graceland only had a couple hits themselves and were scoreless through the first eight innings, but in the 9th inning, Graceland got a one-out double and a three-run home run from Ehu Sanchez. They would get two more runs in the inning for their 5 runs. The Spires went out in order in the 9th inning.

Graceland is now 1-2 on the year.  Graceland will have 4 games next weekend played in Joplin, Missouri.

Graceland Softball responded to getting swept on Saturday by sweeping St Ambrose Sunday in Davenport.  Allison Rebling had a strong pitching performance with a complete game 5-hitter in the first game and Sammi Bradshaw singled in what proved to be the game winner in the 5th inning in Graceland’s 2-1 victory in game 1.  Bradshaw had 3 more hits in the second game, and Paige Cooper hit a 3-run home run in the 2nd game as Graceland won 10-3.  Ries Wilson also became Graceland’s all-time leader in hits during the day.

Graceland will play 6 games next Friday through Sunday in mid-Missouri.
