Green City’s Big 2nd Inning Ends Pattonsburg’s Postseason In Quarterfinals

Pattonsburg’s baseball team couldn’t overcome a 9-run 2nd inning by Green City as the Gophers earned their 2nd trip to the MSHSAA semi-finals in 4 years and beat Pattonsburg 12-5 in Green City in the Class 1 quarterfinal.

Pattonsburg scored a two-out run in the 1st inning for a 1-0 lead, and starter Kaden DeJong worked out of a trouble to leave the bases loaded in the 1st inning, but the Gophers took advantage of opportunities that they created, and others they were presented to score 9 second-inning runs.

 

Pattonsburg Coach Jeff Epperly. Pattonsburg would get a couple runs back in the 3rd inning, but couldn’t close closer than closer than 5 runs for the rest of the game. Pattonsburg did outhit the Gophers in the game. Coach Epperly says Pattonsburg special season came in large part from their seniors’ contributions.

 

 

 

Pattonsburg ends their season 13-3.

Green City Head Coach Dale Whitaker talked about making another appearance at the MSHSAA final-site championships.

 

 

Green City will face Oran in the semi-finals. Oran defeated Norwood 11-1. In the other quarterfinals, St Elizabeth defeated Lockwood 14-0. Leeton defeated Wellsville-Middletown 9-8 in 9 innings.
