Missouri Western Women’s Postseason Run Ends In Elite 8 Quarterfinals

2nd seeded Grand Valley State established themselves early and consistently put more separation between themselves and Missouri Western and made the Missouri Western women’s basketball Elite Eight experience just one game as the Laker defeated the Griffons 67-44 in Birmingham Monday at the NCAA Division II Women’s Elite Eight tournament. Grand Valley State lead 9-2 early. Missouri Western brought the margin to within 5 at the end of the 1st quarter, and it was still 5 about 4 minutes into the 2nd quarter, but then Grand Valley started to stretch it. The lead was 34-23 at halftime, and the Lakers made a decisive move in the 3rd quarter to take a 54-34 lead going into the final period. Head Coach Candy Whitaker says Missouri Western didn’t match playing level of their recent postseason games, but also credited with Lakers with some of that.

Corbyn Cunningham scored 16 points and 7 rebounds in her effort to keep Missouri Western in touch with the Elite 8’s second seed.

Missouri Western ends their season 26-10.
