MSHSAA’s Show Me Showdown Moves Back To Columbia During 2023-24 Season

The Board of Directors for the Missouri State High School Activities Association voted to move MSHSAA’s Show-Me Showdown event back to Mizzou Arena and the Hearnes Center for a cycle that begins with the 2023-24 school year. The action was taken during the June meeting of the MSHSAA Board of Directors held Wednesday. The board reviewed two proposals from Springfield and Columbia before selecting Mizzou Arena and the Hearnes Center. The Show-Me Showdown event will be concluding its cycle at the Hammons Center and JQH Arena with the upcoming 2022-23 basketball season.  Columbia will serve as the Show Me Showdown host beginning with the 2023-24 season through the 2027-28 season.

The MSHSAA board also approved other venues for championship events. Volleyball was approved at the Show-Me Center on the Southeast Missouri State University campus for 2023-24 and 2024-25, but tabled the next 3 years of the 5-year cycle until they conduct a facility visit with the St Joseph Civic Arena.

Mizzou Arena will remain the venue for the MSHSAA Wrestling Championships until the 2028-29 school year. The board authorized the MSHSAA staff to continue discussions with the Hy-Vee Arena in Kansas City for acceptable terms in hosting the Girls Wrestling Championships.

The Cross County Championship will be held at the Gans Creek Recreational Facility in Columbia through the 2028-29 school year.

The University of Missouri will continue to host the Music Festival until the 2028-29 school year.
