Putnam County Reverses Monday Script To Win Tuesday’s Class 2 MSHSAA Baseball 3rd Place Trophy

One day after Putnam County scored the first 5 runs but gave up the last 8 in their Class 2 MSHSAA Baseball Semi-final loss to Marionville on Monday, the Midget flipped the script on Tuesday and came back from 9 down to score the last 11 and win the 3rd place game of the Class 2 MSHSAA Baseball Series at US Bank Park in Ozark. Putnam County defeated Holcomb in the 3rd place game 11-9 after the Midgets spent 4 innings to tie the game. They scored the eventual game winning run and an insurance run in the 7th.

Holcomb chased Putnam County starter Levi Fowler from his first pitching appearance in the game after 1 2/3 innings. Holcomb scored 2 runs in the 1st, but then sent 12 to the plate in the 2nd inning and scored 7 unearned runs to build a 9-0 lead.

But a day after Putnam County witnessed a remarkable comeback against them in the semi-final, the Midgets put scripted their own drama in the trophy game. Putnam County pierced Holcomb starter Wilson McGee for 3 runs in the 3rd to draw back to within 9-3. Then, they chased him in the 4th and eventually scored 4 runs on 5 hits to narrow the margin to 9-7. Single runs in the 5th on a double steal and in the 6th from a Brayden McReynolds single and Carter Quint triple tied the game. Putnam County took the lead in the 7th when Levi Fowler and Gage Pearson hit back-to-back triples and Zach Heidenwith reached on a error for two runs and an 11-9 lead.

Zach Heidenwith held Holcomb scoreless over 3 1/3 innings before Levi Fowler returned to pitch the 6th and 7th innings. Fowler got the win for the Midgets.

Putnam County finishes the season 20-3 on the season.
