Raiderette Softball Heading Back To Fort Dodge After Regional Final Win

Mount Ayr’s girls softball team is back to the Iowa State Softball Tournament for the 3rd time in the last 4 years. Mount Ayr’s girls secured a spot in the Class 2A Girls State Softball Tournament with a 5-1 victory over West Central Valley Monday night at Mount Ayr.

Mount Ayr hosted their first State Regional softball final in 25 years following their upset on Friday night at I-35.

Mount Ayr jumped on the board in the 1st inning. Addy Reynolds and Halsie Barnes both doubled for the run the Raiderettes.

West Central Valley got the run back in the second with a double, single, and ground out.

It stayed that way until the bottom of the 3rd when Breya Nickle doubled in Addy Reynolds who had reached on a dropped fly ball.

Linsie Barnes then hit a two-run home run in the 4th after Payton Lambert had singled in the inning. Mount Ayr led 4-1 after 4.

The Raiderettes added one more run in the 5th for a 5-1 lead.

Mount Ayr worked out of two-on in the 6th and then a strike out and caught stealing ended the game for the Raiderette win.

The Raiderettes will take a 17-9 record to Fort Dodge on Tuesday and will face #1 seed Central Springs in the first round next Tuesday afternoon at 3pm.
