The Kansas City Royals today relieved Dayton Moore of his duties as the teams president of baseball operations.

In a statement announcing the move Royals owner John Sherman said “Dayton’s 16 years of leadership here will always mark the transformation into a World Championship club. Our fans, our region and our community will never forget the excitement we shared in back-to-back pennants and the World Series championship in 2015. He always put the Kansas City Royals first, and we’re stronger today because of it.”

Moore came to the Royals in May 2006 and the the team ultimately improved their win total in seven consecutive seasons from 2009-2015, including their first winning season in 2013 (86-76) since 2003, back-to-back World Series appearances in 2014 and 15 and winning their second world title in 2015.

They have not had a season above .500 since 2015.
