Royals Looking to Rebound After Sweep at Hands of White Sox
The Kansas City Royals are off to a 3-7 start to the shortened 60-game regular season, including taking a three-game sweep at the hands of the rival Chicago White Sox this weekend.
First-year manager of the club, Mike Matheny says he thinks this team is just a couple of timely hits away from winning a few games and being right back in the thick of things.
While there weren’t many bright spots in Sunday’s 9-2 loss to the White Sox was the return of pitcher Jakob Junis.
Junis went four and a third innings allowing just two runs on six hits to go with two walks and a pair of strike outs. Junis says overall it was a great day to pitch and he felt good on the mound.
The Royals enter the new week four and a half games out of first place in the Central division, and two games back of the Detroit Tigers to get out of the cellar.
Danny Duffy starts tonight in the opener against the Chicago Cubs. Duffy is 0-1 with a 5.79 ERA and a 0.75 WHIP over his first nine and a third innings of the season. He has 10 strike outs against just one walk so far in 2020.
The Cubs counter with right-hander Alec Mills who is 1-0 with an ERA of 3.00 and a WHIP of 0.67 over just six innings of work so far in 2020. He has three strike outs and has issued a pair of walks.
Pregame is at 6:30 and first pitch at 7:15 tonight from Wrigley on KKWK 100.1 FM.
