St Elizabeth Defends Class 1 MSHSAA Baseball Title Over Platte Valley, Maysville Walked Off In Class 2 Third-Place Game

The St Elizabeth Hornets successfully defended their MSHSAA Class 1 Baseball championship from last year after they scored five runs in two different innings Tuesday afternoon at Sky Bacon Stadium in Ozark, Missouri and beat Platte Valley 13-3 in the Class 1 championship game.

Platte Valley managed to match a St Elizabeth run in the second inning and the game was tied 1-1 going into the 3rd. Saint Elizabeth got the bats going against Platte Valley starter Memphis Bliley and rapped seven hits in that 3rd inning. Those five runs came on six singles and a double.

St Elizabeth starter Gavin Williams then got a shutdown inning against Platte Valley in the bottom of the 3rd and the Hornets had control of the game.

St Elizabeth added single runs in the 4th and 5th innings and got another five-run rally in the 6th inning to lead 13-2.

Platte Valley managed one run in the bottom of the 6th but could not get another run to extend the game.

Tucker Klamm paced the hitting attack for Platte Valley with two hits and an RBI. Brandon McQueen also reached base twice for Platte Valley.

Platte Valley ends their season 20-3. Saint Elizabeth repeats as the Class 1 MSHSAA baseball champion with a final record of 23-7.

 

In the Class 2 MSHSAA baseball 3rd Place game, Chaffee bunched three of their six hits in their last at-bat and walked off with a 1-0 victory over Maysville.

Dillon Willis of Maysville countered Chaffee starter Peyton Vaughn through most of the game with both throwing shutout baseball during their stints. Willis went six innings and allowed three hits and no runs. He walked 2 and struck out 2. Vaughn surrendered two hits in his five innings. He walked one and struck out 5.

Chaffee led off the 7th inning with two singles. An intentional walk followed. Leyton Handback then hit a ground ball to third that scored Kade Adkins with the winning run.

Maysville ends their season 17-11 and made their first appearance at the MSHSAA Baseball Championships. Chaffee takes 3rd place with a record of 23-10.
