Betty Ann Adkisson, age 94, of Grand River, Iowa, died at Westview Acres in Leon, Iowa on Thursday, August 10, 2023. She was born April 25, 1929, to Albert Walter and Clara Estelle (Stafford) Gilbert, at Douds, Iowa.

Betty lived in Douds until her family moved to Washington, Iowa when she was in high school. She met her future husband, Ernest Lyle Adkisson, while he was working as a lineman installing electric poles. They married on October 5, 1946. After he left the lineman job they moved to Grand River, Iowa to farm, raise cattle, and their four children, Dennis, Michael, Patty, and Peggy.

Betty enjoyed cooking, baking, cake decorating, sewing, quilting, gardening, canning, reading, writing, and listening to music, especially Frank Sinatra. Her cinnamon rolls were well-known and enjoyed by many Grand River and area residents over the years. She helped on the farm and managed the farm records.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Ernie; great grandson, Henry Hunt; sister, Bonnie Manahl; nephew, Chris Manahl; niece, Vicki Manahl; and daughter-in-law, Rita Adkisson. Survivors include her children and spouses, Dennis & Suzanne Adkisson of Grand River, Mike Adkisson of Grand River, Patty & Mike Adams of Colony, Oklahoma, and Peggy & Terry Mothershead of Grand River; 12 grandchildren, Julia Hunt & Craig, Jeffery Adkisson & Angela, Lyle David Adkisson & Amber, April Adkisson & Bjorvin, Monte Adkisson & Roxanne, Doug Adkisson & Joy, Memory Adams & Jeremy Newton, Stormy Austin, Robin Werfelman & Eric, Cody Mothershead & Matison, Tyce Mothershead & Hilary, and Truly Mothershead & Devin Meek; 25 great grandchildren; four great, great grandchildren; and other relatives and many friends.

A celebration of life service will be held at the Ellston United Methodist Church at 11 a.m. Friday, August 25, 2023, with Pastor Rick Hawkins officiating. A luncheon will follow in Grand River at the Community Center.  Burial will be in the Grand River Cemetery, Grand River, Iowa at a later date. Arrangements were through the Slade – O’Donnell Funeral Home in Leon, Iowa.

Memorials may be given to the Ellston United Methodist Church OR the Grand River Community Center in Betty’s memory.
