Betty Smith
Betty Lois Smith, age 90, of Lamoni, Iowa, the daughter of George Ruby and Hazel Pauline (McCullough) Myers, was born August 18, 1930, in Decatur County, Iowa. She died at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa on Friday, October 30, 2020.
On May 1, 1948, Betty married Kenneth Gayle Smith. They were blessed with three children, Kathy, Doug, and Craig. Betty helped Kenny on the farm before working at Graceland College in the kitchen/cafeteria. After her first retirement and Kenny’s death, Betty went back to work at Graceland.
Betty was a strong, independent woman who loved her family. She was a great cook and was the rock of the family and always provided a solid place anyone could go to. She never complained, just did what needed done and went on. She loved to garden and tend to her flowers.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Kenny Smith in 2000; son, Craig Smith in 2013; daughter, Kathy England in 2014; siblings, Harold Myers, Juanita Harden, and Lou Richardson; and friend, Les Johnson. Survivors include her son, Doug Smith and wife, Paula, of Lamoni, Iowa; grandchildren and spouses, Kelly & Terry Cozad, Renee & Aaron Alley, Lacey & Larry Johnson, Lydia Smith & Chris, Keegan & Jennifer Smith, and Shelby & Nate Pierschbacher; 12 great grandchildren, Teran, Bryce, Shira, Rilee, Landry, Jayna, Landon, Carver, Addyson, Walker, Bray, and Kamarie; three great, great grandchildren, Noah, Tyler, and Maggie; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
A Graveside Memorial Service will be held at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Lamoni, Iowa at 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 6, 2020, with Pastor Neil Montz officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Lamoni. Arrangements were through the Slade – O’Donnell Funeral Home in Leon, Iowa.
