Donald Ray Dale

Donald Ray Dale, age 67, died at Ingalls Memorial Hospital in Harvey, Illinois, on Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2023, after an extended illness.

Don was a loving father who lived more than 20 years in the Chicago area. An avid fan of Chicago sports teams, he worked for a time as a security guard for an armored vehicle company. He lived in Midlothian, Illinois, the last several years.

Donald Ray Dale was born in Leon, Iowa, on July 10, 1956, to Donald Lee and Sandra Dale. His family moved to Bethany, Missouri, when he was young, and he graduated from South Harrison High School in 1975. He served in the U.S. Air Force after graduation and married Stephanie Ross with whom he had a son, Erick Ross Dale. On March 11, 2007, he married Kathleen Herbert who survives him.

Don also is survived by his mother, Sandra, of St. Joseph, Missouri; his son, Erick Dale of Shorewood, Illinois; grandson, Chase Mock and his mother, Monica Kosmopolis; two brothers, Milfred “Bud” Dale of Topeka, Kansas, and David Dale of St. Joseph, Missouri; one sister, Janette Ralston of St. Charles, Missouri; three nieces, three nephews, three great-nieces, and three great-nephews.

And Don was brother-in-law to Ronald (Penny) Herbert Jr., Randy Green, Rick Green, Robert (Jenni) Green, Leanne (the late John) Rodonis, and Lorrie (Matthew) Puttkammer.

He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Lee Dale; his first wife, Stephanie; a stepson, Timothy Mock; and a great-niece, Hailey Jo Dunbar.

Funeral service will be held at the Slade – O’Donnell Funeral Home in Leon, Iowa at 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 18, 2023, with Rev. Susan Alley officiating.  Burial will following in the New Salem Cemetery, south of Leon, Iowa.  Visitation with Family receiving friends will be on Wednesday, the hour before the service.
