Donna Deemer

Donna Jean (Wicker) Deemer, daughter of Donald and Alice (Laird) Wicker was born in Creston, IA on November 15, 1950. She was a daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and cherished friend to many.

In Donna’s younger years, she was very active in sports. She participated in Basketball, Softball and Track. She graduated from Grand Valley in 1968.

Donna worked throughout her years in occupations that allowed her flexibility to enjoy her children’s activities and sports. She was active in the United Methodist church in Van Meter, where she taught Sunday school and lead the Youth Group. Donna was an avid sports spectator for her children and grandchildren’s activities. She was her children’s and grandchildren’s biggest supporter. She could be found in the stands cheering them on any given day of the week.

Her green thumb led her to create many beautiful gardens with vibrant flowers and flourishing fruits and vegetables. During the summer time in 2015, she was awarded “garden of the month” by the Sunshine Garden Club of Winterset. She was very proud of her garden. When she wasn’t able to be outside working in her gardens, she would be working on her latest quilting project. Whether it was a quilt she had been working on or pillow cases for her grandkids, she enjoyed sharing her artistic visions with everybody.

Donna had a unique gift of never meeting a stranger. She could have a conversation with a stranger that could last for hours and by the end of the conversation, she would have a new friend. She always said that no matter where you go, you will see someone you know. Whether sharing laughter or offering a comforting word, she left an indelible mark on the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her.

Donna is survived by her children, Angela (Ed) Cutshaw of Berthoud, CO, Jennifer (David) Grose of Winterset, IA, Scott Deemer of Milligan, NE and Matt Deemer of Winterset, IA; Sisters Nancy (Gary) Grose of Kellerton, IA, Marsha (Melvis) Jimmerson of Van Meter, IA and Debbie (Bill) Baker of Anita, IA; grandchildren Payton (Christian) Quintana of Fort Lupton, CO, Dalton Quintana of Berthoud, CO, Caleb (Beth) Grose of West Des Moines, IA, Elysabeth (Dexter) Johnson of Winterset, IA, Cody Deemer of Winterset, IA, Kolt Deemer of Milligan, NE; great-grandchild Crew Johnson of Winterset, IA.

Donna was preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Alice Wicker.
