Edwin Arthur Weddle, 69, died on his fishing boat, wrestling his lifelong nemesis, Walter the bass, into his boat on 12/08/2022. He had been trying to catch that fish for years, but today it caught him. Maybe not, but we all know that’s the way he would have preferred to go.
If you knew Ed, you knew that he had more fishing poles than he had sense. You want to go bass fishing? He had a pole for that. Crappie? Yup. Pike with giant teeth? Got you covered. Do you want to go catch that fish that grants wishes and turns everything gold? He’s got that one too.
If you knew Ed, you know there wasn’t a song he couldn’t dance to. Music was one of the loves of his life, right behind charming the ladies. His smile and laugh could light up a room and turn the worst days into good ones.
Ed was not only a fine fisherman, but he was a Father and Grandfather as well. He was a father that took pride in his kids’ and grandkids’ accomplishments. He was a man who was never short on I love yous, on smiles and on laughter when you needed it, or a place at his table if you were down on your luck.
And if you truly knew Ed you knew a man who took pride in his work. He was a master plumber that would teach you if it was worth doing, it was worth doing right the first time. Ed could teach you to turn a wrench on just about anything and leave you with the confidence that you could do it right.
Fish everywhere celebrate the end of Ed’s life as he has left a legacy of master fishermen and fisherwomen.
Edwin Arthur Weddle, father, grandfather, fisherman, mushroom hunter, dancer, and perhaps the maker of the best damn steak you’ve ever had was born May 13, 1953. He was preceded in death by his brother Roger Weddle and father Dean Weddle (Roger, you’re gonna need a bigger boat). Ed is survived by his Mother Marie Weddle, brother Mike Weddle, Sisters Marcia Core and Jeannie Winters, daughters Mattea Burson, Amy Garcia and sons Jesse Weddle, Lucas Crowe as well as seven grandchildren.
Family visitation will be from 12-2 p.m. on Sunday, December 11, 2022, followed by a service at 2 P.M. at the Hann Funeral Chapel, Grant City, Missouri. Per his wishes, Mr. Weddle’s body will be cremated. Private family inurnment will be held at a later date.
A celebration of life will be at a later date in 2023 at the Weddle Campground.
And no, you can’t have any of his stuff.
