Glada Manchester

Glada Darlene Manchester, age 91, the daughter of George Henry Cotterill and Margie Angeline (Williams) Cotterill, was born August 30, 1931, at the Williams’ farm home, near Pleasanton, Iowa. Her only sibling, Albert Curtis Cotterill, to whom she was very close, was born January 8, 1933. Glada passed away February 13, 2023, at Lamoni Speciality Care in Lamoni, Iowa.

Glada grew up on her parent’s farm northeast of Decatur City, Iowa and attended Lone Star School through the 8th grade. She then moved to Leon with her parents and brother, where she attended high school, while her father commuted from town to their farm. She was baptized into Christ as a teenager and was a faithful member of the Church of Christ, thereafter. She graduated from Leon High School in 1950 as Valedictorian.

Glada married William James “Bill” Manchester on July 14, 1950, in Des Moines, Iowa. They made their home in rural Davis City, Iowa in New Buda Township, where they raised their three children: Glen, Sharon, and Gaylen.

Glada loved farm life, provided her family with home grown meals, cultivated a large garden and flowers, supported the off-farm businesses of a produce store and Davis City Elevator, and coordinated her children’s many activities. Most of all, she provided a loving, Christian example.

Preceding her in death were her parents and brother. She leaves behind her beloved family: Bill Manchester, husband for more than 72 years, of Davis City, Iowa; son, Glen Morris Manchester and wife, Lana of Jefferson, Texas; daughter, Sharon Elaine Kleinbeck and husband, Jeff of Murray, Iowa; son, Gaylen George Manchester and wife, Anna of Southlake, Texas; grandchildren: Dayne Manchester and wife, Alissa, Darya Castilleja and husband, Ian, Alyssa Nelson and husband, Ryan, Erin Walrad and husband, Matt, Jeremy Manchester and wife, Heather, Amy Tischler and husband, Justin, Justin Manchester, and Emily Manchester; and great-grandchildren, Lorelei Hance, Vincent Hance, Kamlin Manchester, Adeline Manchester, Korbin Manchester, Easton Manchester, Baker Nelson, Isabelle Nelson, Jasmin Walrad, Logan Manchester, Max Manchester, Katy Manchester, and Haylie Tischler. Additional family members are sister-in-law, Nancy Cotterill of Leon; niece, Margie Sue Burchett of Lamoni, Iowa; nephew, Curtis Cotterill of Leon, Iowa; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at the Slade – O’Donnell Funeral Home in Leon, Iowa at 10 a.m. Tuesday, February 21, 2023, with Albert Hadlock officiating. Burial will be in the Leon Cemetery, Leon, Iowa. Visitation is Monday at the funeral home beginning at 2 p.m. with Family receiving friends 5 – 7 p.m.
