Greg Nees
Greg Nees – age 68 of Richmond, MO passed away Wednesday morning, February 21, 2024, at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, KS. Greg was born on October 31, 1955, the son of Donald and Inez (Womack) Nees in Tulsa, OK. He grew up in Kansas City North and was a 1973 graduate of North Kansas City High School. Following high school Greg obtained a bachelor’s degree in music education in 1977 from Northwest Missouri State University. He married Judy Shrum on Saturday, June 3rd, 1978, at the Cowgill United Methodist Church. He taught music at Orrick, Stet and Adrian. He then worked for Turner Music and Carlson Systems. Greg began working at Cisco Tool in Kansas City. In 2017, he purchased the business from his employer and friend, KB Winterowd, fulfilling a lifelong dream of owning a business. Greg was a member of the Richmond United Methodist Church where he was a lay minister and served in the choir and directed the bell choir. Most recently he attended the Orrick Christian Church. Greg was a member of Acacia Chapter #42 Order of the Eastern Star and Richmond Masonic Lodge #57. He was an Eagle Scout and very involved in Boy’s Scouts. Loved all kinds of music and never missed watching a Chiefs game. Greg had a deep faith in Jesus Christ, was knowledgeable about the Bible and great with biblical illustrations. Greg loved his family, especially his grandchildren. He had many friends and will be dearly missed.
Greg was preceded in death by his parents; infant sister Kathryn Nees; grandchild, Owen Nees; and nephew, Nick Goodner, He is survived by his wife Judy of the home; children, Lydia Baker (Brett) of Belton, MO and Corey Nees (Anna Leigh) of Loranger, LA; grandchildren, Rose Baker, Aden Baker (Charlie), Victoria Baker, Mathias Baker, Zavier Baker, Emma Housworth, Ebin Housworth, Mason Nees, Mario Nees, Nelda Nees, Naomi Nees, and Myron Nees; sisters, Elaine Goodner of Richmond, MO and Ellen Miller of Plano, TX; several nieces, nephews and other extended family members also survive.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Boy Scout Troop #124, Acacia Chapter #42 or the Orrick Christian Church in care of the funeral home. A service celebrating Greg’s life will be held at 5:30 PM, Saturday, February 24th, 2024, at the Orrick Christian Church. The family will receive friends beginning at 4:00 PM Saturday also at the church. Inurnment at a later date at Cowgill Cemetery.
