James Montgomery Burr
James Montgomery Burr
1956-2023
James Montgomery Burr was born on September 28th, 1956, in Osborn, Missouri to Robert and Beatrice Burr. Jim
had an older sister, Deborah (of Gladstone) and a younger brother John (now deceased).
Jim was proud of being born and raised on a family farm in Osborn, MO, which is now a recognized century farm in
Clinton County, MO. He graduated from Osborn High School in 1974 where he was voted most likely to succeed.
He continued his education at Northwest Missouri State University where he completed his undergraduate work and
went on to earn his master’s degree in agricultural business. He was a member of Sigma Tau Gamma where he
found lifelong fraternal brothers. Jim was very proud to be a Homesteader donor to the Agricultural Learning Center
at NWMSU.
Jim started as a grain broker at Farmers Commodities Corp (FCC), which would develop into a fortune 500
company, StoneX, where he led the energy hedging team. He dedicated 41 years to this company where he was
recognized and loved for his expertise, mentorship, and hedging schools, of which he taught over 3,000 across the
country.
His passion was aviation, building multiple airplanes, including a grand champion kit-built Christen Eagle. He spent
every weekend at the hangar working on these airplanes with his best friend, Larry Denning. Jim organized,
competed in, and judged aerobatic competitions where he would make many friends who shared his love of aviation.
All of these accomplishments were shared with his wife of 41 years Peggy Mann. Jim and Peggy were married on
October 10th, 1981, in the church he was born and raised in, Smith Fork Baptist Church. They had two children,
Rachel (married to Matt Terrill – grandchildren: Declan and Adeline) and Steven (married to Leigh Morrison–
grandchildren: Issac and Elijah). Jim also treasured his relationship with his nephew, Ethan Burr (married to Holli
Murrell).
Jim is preceded in death by his father Robert Burr, his mother Beatrice Burr, his brother John Burr, and his uncle
Edmund Tutt and aunt Mary Lee Tutt.
Jim loved his co-workers, his aviation friends (the chickenhawks), his fraternity brothers, his customers, his family,
his Vast extended family, and his many, many other friends and loved ones.
Jim passed away peacefully in his Kearney, MO home on February 20th, 2023, surrounded by his family, dogs, and
so much love.
