LaRae Read, 75, Bethany, MO passed away Sunday, August 15, 2021 at her home.

She was born on December 14, 1945 in Trenton, Missouri the daughter of Ray and Lura (Powell) Ellis. She grew up in and around Melbourne and Gilman City and then moved to Bethany in 1998.

She married George Everett Read on November 25, 1964 in Gilman City, Missouri. She helped farm for 34 years and enjoyed it very much. She worked small jobs when she moved to Bethany and was a caregiver to people in Bethany and Gilman City.

LaRae was a daughter, sister, granddaughter, wife, mother, aunt, and grandmother. She enjoyed sewing for family and taking trips, even if it was just to St. Joseph or Kansas City. She looked forward to being able to take Tena and Tammy on their birthday trips each year.

She started her life in Christ at the age of 10 at Melbourne Baptist Church. She went there until she married and then went to Pilot Grove Baptist Church just a half mile from home. She wants to thank all who shared their lives with her at Pilot Grove. She loved them all. She always had fun teaching in Sunday School and Bible School.

When LaRae moved to Bethany, she had a hard time for the first five years. She knew what she needed to do was to get back with the Lord and she did. She started going to the First Baptist Church in Bethany. It was a lot bigger than Pilot grove and she knew she needed to be in a Sunday School class and hear the bible preached. It was hard to go back but she always said that Sunday School was very important because you kept on learning something even when you got older. She slowly began to know some of the people and it became easier to keep going. She would bring food as often as she could as she loved to cook.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents; parents, Ray and Lura; a daughter; brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Carol Ellis and their daughter, Shelly Ellis.

LaRae leaves behind her daughters, Tena Read Wilson (Joe) and Tammy Read Bowles (Brad); five grandchildren, Sawyer (Megan) DeWitt, Bryton (Shelbey) Bowles, Blayton (Katie) Bowles, Bylee Bowles, and Haize Wilson (Landon); four great grandchildren; brothers, Tom (Ann) Ellis and his two sons and one daughter and their families; Howard Ellis and his son and family; and nephew, David and family.
