Larry Alan Vanderflute, age 52, of Lamoni, Iowa, the son of Larry Dale and Janice Elaine (Ruth) Vanderflute, was born August 26, 1968, in Leon, Iowa. He died unexpectedly at the Clarke County Hospital in Osceola, Iowa on Friday, July 16, 2021.

Larry grew up in Leon, Iowa and attended Central Decatur Schools. He lived in Iowa and worked construction for various companies and also owned his own construction business for a while. He remodeled many homes. At the time of his death he was working at Osceola Foods in Osceola.

On August 10, 1996, he was united in marriage to Shannon Lynn Lawson in Leon. Together they raised their three children, Cheyenne, Aspen, and Lawson. In his free time, Larry loved being outdoors. His family was the most important thing to him. He was a jokester and loved to make people laugh. He loved his two dogs, Remi and River.

Preceding him in death were his dad, Larry Vanderflute; father-in-law, Gerry Lawson; and sister-in-law, Rachelle Jacobs. Those who will miss him most are his wife, Shannon Vanderflute of Lamoni, Iowa; children, Cheyenne Simmons-Vanderflute and companion, Kevin Fontenot of Zavalla, Texas, Aspen and Chase Wik of Lineville, Iowa, and Lawson Vanderflute of Lineville, Iowa; granddaughter, Nevaeh and granddaughter, Jersey, expected soon; his mom, Janice Deemer of Leon; three sisters, Vicci and Claude Hutchison and Sheila Nauman, all of Lamoni, Iowa and Tammy and Dave Novak of Templeton, Iowa; mother-in-law, Diane Lawson of Osceola; brother-in-law, Shawn and Shelly Lawson of Audubon, Iowa; nieces and nephews; best buddie, Dave DeVore of Leon, Iowa; and other relatives and many friends.

A memorial service will be held at the Slade – O’Donnell Funeral Home in Leon, Iowa at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 22, 2021, with Pastor Terry D. Roberts officiating. Burial will be in Elk Cemetery, Decatur, Iowa, at a later date.
