Lillian “Lil” Evans
Lillian Velma “Lil” Evans, daughter of Joseph Clarence and Doshie Virginia (Harrelson) Holloway, was born January 11, 1931, in rural Mississippi and died June 25, 2023, at Westview Acres in Leon, Iowa at the age of 92.
Lil was united in marriage to Cleo Leroy Evans on March 29, 1952, in Baltimore, Maryland. To this union four children were born, Laura Kay, Joni, Michael, and Sheila.
Lil lived most of her childhood on farms in Mississippi. She helped pick cotton, milk cows, churn butter and whatever else needed done. She graduated from high school in Calhoun City, MS. She later joined the Army where she met her husband Cleo in Arlington, VA. When the children were nearly grown, she started working at the Decatur County Hospital as a nurses’ aide and EMT which she enjoyed for 18 years. After she retired, she and Cleo made crafts and traveled to craft shows as well as selling them in various shops.
She was baptized in the Baptist Church at a young age. She attended Mercer Baptist Church in Mercer, MO and later Calvary Baptist Church in Leon, when she was no longer comfortable driving the distance to Mercer.
She was preceded in death by husband, Cleo; her parents; all of her seven siblings, Gilbert Holloway, Winfred Holloway, J.C. Holloway, Ruby Carington, Robert Earl Holloway, and Hurchel Holloway, and her sister, Sue Hubbard, predeceasing her by one day; her honorary son-in-law, Jimmie Fulton; Cleo’s parents; and his brother and sister. She is survived by her children, Kay of Leon, IA, Joni of Gardnerville, NV, Mike (Pam Keshlear) of Kansas City, KS, and Sheila Caldwell of Lamoni, IA; grandchildren, Michael Laramie (Kira Williams), David Norman, and Matt Norman (Lani Moeller); great grandchildren, Jaiden Laramie, Grace Norman, James Norman, Opal Norman, Leo Norman, and Milo McAtee; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
